Gordon Place, Newtown

Dwell has owned property on Gordon Place for a number of years, and now we’ve purchased the adjacent property, giving us a unique and exciting opportunity. Together these three parcels of land offer Dwell a chance to add well-designed, medium-density community housing, to the wonderful suburb of Newtown.

Dwell has again selected the team that led our successful developments in Kilbirnie. With Novak + Middleton on architecture duties and Wilson Commercial involved from the beginning with building advice, these homes will be beautiful, well-built options for those in need of a secure home in a well-resourced neighbourhood.

What we’re building

Our current design includes a total of 26 homes of various sizes - many having accessibility features to allow independent living. All residents will have access to a green and sunny communal space in the heart of this new village.

The village will consist of:

  • Seven 3-bedroom family homes. These will be built over two-stories, each with sunny balconies off the living area.

  • Twelve 2-bedroom light-filled apartments.

  • Seven 1-bedroom accessible units with private front and back courtyards.

  • A shared garden space with lush planting, picnic tables, bike parking and areas for residents to play, gather and rest.

A proven method

Gordon Place uses known building methods and materials, similar to Dwell’s successful Kilbirnie development Mahora Te Aroha. This approach reduces risk and ensures a proven, well-liked design.

A well-resourced suburb

Gordon Place is located within walking distance and with easy transport access to:

  • Wellington Hospital and medical centres

  • Two major supermarkets and a range of specialty stores

  • Schools, community centres, library and playgrounds

In a community currently overwhelmed with homelessness, this village will provide secure, stable and healthy homes for our community.

🏡 Resource consent is in the bag!

We were absolutely delighted to receive resource consent for Gordon Place this month. In reaching this milestone we are able to progress to the next stage of the process which is building consent. Whilst building any community housing development is a lengthy and involved process, it is all worth it when we see individuals and families moving from unsafe living environments into their secure, healthy homes in well-resourced suburbs like Newtown.
