Onepu Road - One step closer to another well-housed community

It’s all go in the world of Dwell Housing Trust! Progress is well underway at our new development, in Onepu Road, Kilbirnie.

Our latest community housing project has been hitting some major milestones with underground services and foundations now successfully installed, meaning the next phase of the project can now begin.

The seeds of the Onepu Road project were sown at our recently completed development, Mahora Te Aroha. Dwell purchased the land adjacent to this development and engaged with our incredible partners: Novak and Middleton, Wilson Commercial and Maltbys. Together, we are able to continue the journey of providing affordable, healthy and secure housing for our residents.

As we continue to work together, our relationship with our partners has only gone from strength to strength. Allowing us to develop strong communication channels and finesse our decision-making processes, taking all the great learnings to date with us to this new project.

This has meant the acquisition of Onepu and the expansion of our existing Kilbirnie projects has been seamlessly added to Mahora Te Aroha and strengthened the energy and resolve of the whole team. We like nothing more than being able to build more homes within a great community.

Not only does the Onepu project see the addition of 10 new homes for people in need, but Dwell also gets to provide our first “Community Room” – a bright, flexible, indoor space for our residents with a kitchen and accessible bathroom. We also have set aside room to create a common outdoor garden area in the heart of the development, a space that all residents of the 29 new homes can connect to and enjoy.

“This one seems like our easy baby” says Ingrid Downey, Dwell’s Projects Manager.

“The team has cut our teeth on the previous projects in Kilbirnie, so working together on this one has been so smooth. The Kilbirnie suburb has been so welcoming. It is a great place for our tenants to create their stable, affordable home.”

Our partners make a huge contribution to the impact that we can have in our community. We’re grateful for their support, skills and expertise to make our community housing projects a reality. Special thanks also go out to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development for their role in supporting this project
