Dr Ramona Tiatia

Board Member

Dr. Ramona Tiatia has had a distinguished career in housing research in Aotearoa New Zealand. Since 2006, she has been an active research fellow with the internationally acclaimed He Kāinga Orā / Housing and Health Research Programme at the University of Otago. This programme has received prestigious national recognition, including the Rutherford Medal (2021) and the Prime Minister’s Science Prize for Team Research (2014).

Ramona’s doctoral and post-doctoral research in housing was supported by the Health Research Council of New Zealand, and she has collaborated widely across sectors. Her interdisciplinary work spans Māori and Pacific experiences with renewable energy, home dialysis, home detention, youth alcohol supply, oral health, rheumatic fever medication reformulation, and the development of software tools to map functional uses of built environments.

In addition to her academic contributions, Ramona brings extensive experience from the social services sector, where she has led teams in violence prevention, addiction services, and prisoner rehabilitation.
